LOTW Vol. VI

December 14, 2010

Woah, it’s been ages since I last posted. I don’t really have an excuse, I guess I’ve just been in holiday mode ever since I got back from the States. While I was in LA, I went to the Grammy Museum and saw a rad exhibition on Janis Joplin and since I’ve been back, the girls and I have been going hard-core fem-bot on our missions out to the beach, blasting her music on the car stereo.

So here’s a wee outfit inspired by the one and only. I tried the skirt on at Opening Ceremony, totally regretting not buying it, but I opted for one of the Pendelton ones instead that I’m equally as happy with.

September 29, 2010

Apologies for the lack of ‘Look’ last week, I couldn’t even come up with a look for myself for fashion week, let alone one to publish! BUT! I’m sure everyone has been feeling a summer vibe lingering just around the corner with this beautiful weather we’ve been having lately. So this week, I’ve stripped it back to basics. The amazing yellow ensemble is from Karen Walker’s latest Spring 2011 collection, and I’ve been lusting over the skirt ever since i feasted my eyes on it. Thought I’d put in the beginnings of my summer sound track too, it’s gonna be a goodie!

LOTW Vol. IV

September 16, 2010

Less than a month till my trip to the West Coast USA! I’m a bit of a loser… I’m starting to count down (as of right NOW, it’s exactly 26 days, 2 hours 12 mintues and 40 seconds till I leave to the airport :P )

So, in honour of my trip (and to take my mind off this glum weather we’re having) I put together a wee road-trip ensemble. I saw the Converse X Parra chucks in the latest Sneaker Freaker and I gotta say, I actually kinda like them! Although it will Autumn when I arrive in San Francisco, I’m hoping the sun will still be out. Come on West Coast, don’t let me down!

p.s. While the bar has been rather tolerable lately, there’s just one thing I’d like to set straight…

Jager Bomb = Shot glass of Jagermeister dunked into half a short glass of Red Bull and shot back at once

Jager & Red Bull = Tall glass of ice with a shot of Jagermeister filled with an entire can of Red Bull

So please dont ask for a Jager Bomb with ice, or a Jager Bomb in a tall glass. No. Not right. Wrong. Nope. Uh uhh.

If you haven’t already noticed, I’m a bit OCD when it comes to colour coordination… Sometimes it’s a bit matchy-matchy, but I like to think it’s just dressing to a theme! This week: A bit gothy mixed with some prettier pieces to lighten the tone

Look Of The Week

August 23, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged… I’ve been so busy posting up on Sartorial Journal that I’ve fully neglected my blog duties, especially as I feel like I’m repeating myself on my personal blog, my Qubic blog AND SJ Forums! So I came up with this wee idea to keep things consistent…

Introducing my look of the week! I’ve decided that every Monday I’ll compile a new look and post it up to get your opinions. Styling has always been a huge passion of mine and being able to do it on the computer makes it that much easier :)

A bit of Tailored Nature if you will. I have a huge crush on chiffon shirts at the moment, so I started with that and the rest just seemed to fall into place. What do you reckon?

I’m Tumbling Tumbling

August 2, 2010

Got me a tumblr for when I’m lost for words and too lazy to blog… And I think you should follow me cause that would be pretty rad. That is all.

Check it.

It’s been a while since I’ve come across some fashion-based art that I actually like, so I was pleasantly surprised when this was sent to my inbox this morning! The subdued colouring, the oil-painting look to the photographs, the repetition and of course, the clothing and models in these particular images, in my opinion, make for a great composition.

Chinese photographer Quentin Shih collaborated with Christian Dior in 2008 with his series ‘Stranger in the Glass Box‘. Two years on, he’s back, this time creating artworks for the Dior store due to re-open in Shanghai.

Carnivale Chic

July 20, 2010

With the Qubic Carnivale coming up on the 31st July (which I hope you will all be in attendance!), circus themed costumes are the conversation norm at the moment amongst the Qubic staff. While I’ve got my costume all figured out in my head, I came across the most perfect blog yesterday, mostly dedicated to circus themed fashion (especially for the ladies)! To my delight, the blog (Zippercut) featured one of my favourite shoots featuring Miss Jessica Stam, as well as a bunch of other inspiring costume options… Here’s a selection of my favourites, but check it out for yourself!

This brand Pepper and Pistol has some perfectly wearable pieces, I absolutely love the harlequin shirts!

And a few more odds and sodds:

Stephen Shore

July 15, 2010

I just came across the new fall Urban Outfitters lookbook and instantly fell in love with the photographs. The man behind the camera, Stephen Shore is responsible for the commonly described ‘deadpan’ images, which I feel ties in so well with the aesthetics and styling of Urban Outfitters.

After doing a bit of research, I’ve discovered that Shore started his career at the ripe age of 14, after presenting his photographs to Edward Steichen, then curator of photography at MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). From there, his career took off, going on to be the first living photographer to have a one-man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. More recently, he shoots for Another and W magazines and has shot campaigns for Bottega Veneta and Titleist.

My favourite of his photographs are the ones he’s more known for, the middle America scenes and landscapes. Maybe it’s just because I’m on the American bandwagon for the moment, I dunno, but check them out:
